I only managed 3 books in April but I was busy with BCTF :) Here they are!
I picked this up from a charity shop and while I liked it I found the plot a little annoying. Basically Laura wants to start a creative company and it all works out in the end with spectacular results and not much effort from Laura! It's already gone to the charity shop :)
Matt and I found this in Sainsbury's while shopping for food for me for BCTF (I was in the campervan for the duration) If you get chance to read it then you should - it's a brilliant book! It weaves back and forth through recent history but this only adds to the tension rather than being annoying. I didn't see the ending coming at all and it stayed with me for a good few days afterwards - a sign of a good book! Go read it.
This was the book I gave out for World Book Night but I cheated and hadn't read it first - shhhhh don't tell! It was very twisty turny and I didn't expect the ending although I had some suspicions along the way.
22/52 - not bad :)
I bought Laura's Handmade Life in the charity shop about a year ago (well, I had to really!) but haven't been able to bring myself to read it as I suspected it would be rubbish. I don't tend to like crappy books even as a summer read, but perhaps I will save this one for some summer holiday or other. Could be good for a change of pace?
ReplyDeleteI also bought The Pile Of Stuff At The Bottom Of The Stairs in a charity shop this week. It also looks like it could be annoying and a bit rubbish, but I had a vague recollection of you mentioning it once? Did you read it and, if so, is it worth it or a waste of valuable time? Thanks :)
ps I have just read two really good books - Song of Achilles and The Sea (by John Banville) if you are looking for recommendations. The first one is fast paced and sexy-exciting, the second one is slow paced and poetic/thought provoking.
I read Little Face a couple of years ago. I didn't know what to think by the end and it was on my mind for ages.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to mainly reading detective stories of all kinds with the occasional other genre. I always soldier on to the end of book even if I don't like it . It seems disloyal not to. John thinks I should just give up.
Oooh I am attempting 52 books in 52 weeks too...and failing at the mo though!! These books all look good...must add to the list ;)
