Coffee, cake and cards for charity

Macmillan Cancer Support organise the worlds biggest coffee morning once a year and every year there is someone I know who organises one locally. My friend Nicola did just that this morning so I went along and took some cards and gift tags with half of the money I made going to the charity. I didn't contribute much - people were more interested in the cake, and rightly so - but over £100 was made :)

Happy Birthday to me!

You may have guessed by the title that it is my birthday today - I'm 34 :) And I'm a very lucky ducky - just look what I had to open this morning!

This record player brooch was bought by Tara - isn't it cute? It was made by Sugar Cookie and I love it!

Anya bought me this gorgeous purple button necklace - she knows me well! It's from Planet Button on Folksy.

I LOVE Mikiep so Matt ordered me this Best Friends print :)

And he also got me some badges from Bean Forest :) I love their badges!

And we also went to an antiques place* yesterday after lunch (we ate out!) where we purchased these 10 Martin Beck books for the grand sum of £2 - yep 20p per book :) I'm hoping we enjoy them (I've heard good things) but for 20p per book we thought we couldn't really go wrong!

*I know these aren't antiques but they have a shelf full of books at 20p each for Help the Heroes and needless to say I always seem to come out with something from there! Plus we did buy some things as presents but I can't show you them here just in case my parents get internet before Christmas :)

Peppermint bark

If you saw me prattling on Twitter yesterday you may have seen me mention Peppermint bark. I first saw it on Soule Mama a couple of years ago but resolved to make some this year.

And it tastes delicious! I made double the amount and there was enough for 6 gift bags full (4 have been given away to friends already) with a bit left over for us. And 24 hours after making it there is some left - amazing!

*for UK readers the heavy cream in the recipe is the same as double cream in the UK :) Oh and I would recommend keeping it it the fridge - the middle layer melted a bit when left on the side.

Mothers Day!

After tweeting that we don't really do presents in this house Matt and the girls surprised me with some badges from Beanforest. I like Beanforest a lot!

I got this musical badge (even though I can't sing a note!) Because it really would be great if life was a musical although not if it took a turn for the worse like in the Buffy episode Once More With Feeling.

I also got these - one each from the girls. I like to think I am always the angel but.....

I already own this one and it is very true. I am the person that holds the door open for you and says 'Thank You' in a loud voice when you don't say it yourself! The midwife when I was giving birth to Anya thought it was very strange that I kept saying thanks to Matt when he was giving me things even during contractions but hey, that's just the way I roll!

I quite fancy these two badges too so just in case anyone is looking for Christmas.....

Teacher gifts

I have been so busy recently that only the girls main teachers are getting a Christmas present! I made them some Christmas tree decorations that are made from felted jumpers with a bit of added sparkle.

And I packaged them in some cute angel bags from Ikea with a Swirlyarts gift tag (of course!) Fingers crossed that the teachers will like them!

My Creative Space

Remember the fabric strips from Monday? Well I've only gone and ironed them and started making something! And I said it would take a year - pah! :)

I had a definate plan for these rectangles but it keeps changing so I am going to leave them on my table for a while to see when inspiration strikes. The grey below the rectangles is a wool blanket type material that I picked up from Sams thinking it was felt but it is much better and I'm going to have to look for more!

And these are the fabrics I am working on today (and hoping the first bit will be finished today too) I tried to budle them up artfully but it looked rubbish so here they are laying on the floor :) There will be no wip shot for this piece of work as it is going to be a birthday gift for a little boy who turns 1 at the very start of September and I think his mum reads my blog!

Christmas day

I just realised I didn't show you what I wore on Christmas day.

The pink sequinned top was teamed with a plain black skirt at first but it lacked pazazz so I opted to wear it with this turquoise skirt instead. I had to tuck the top in rather than have it out as it didn't look right. I liked it anyway! Here are some more pics from the big day.

The girls unwrapping their favourite things - books!

Santa was very good to them (he brings the stocking presents in our house) and the girls got these fab ballet tiles from Leigh Shepherd. They were very impressed that Santa knew they had seen the tiles at a craft fair and that they had liked them! Santa also brought them some fabulous crocheted hair bobbles from Jennyflower and some cute rainbow cats from Quernus.

And here is Matt opening his Star Wars cats from Kirsten at Quernus too. He was very impressed :)

Presents for a little boy

Well this morning I have been to see Sebastian who is the newest addition to the Davies family :) Here is what I made for him.


Some babygro's - you always need clean babygro's for a newborn.

These have been rolled up and popped inside this nappy cake which I also made :) The bird is making a bid for freedom!

Did you spot the recycled flowers I made? Added as decoration - for Sebastian's crafty mummy to use at some stage. Ditto with the ribbon!
